These applicants were the interventionists in the suomotu case registered by the Supreme Court to deal with the problems of migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the applicants, mentioned the application before a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana on Wednesday and demanded its immediate listing. On this the Chief Justice said that he would consider it.

The application has sought a direction to the Central Government to file a status report in respect of the directions contained in the decision dated June 29, 2021. The application also sought a direction to all the respondent State Governments to immediately implement the direction contained in the June 2021 decision to formulate a suitable scheme for distribution of dry ration to migrant workers without insisting on production of identity proof.
