The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 : It is an Act to enable certain special powers to be conferred upon members of the armed forces in disturbed areas in the State of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
The Apprentices Act, 1961: This Act was enacted to provide for the regulation and control of training of apprentices.
The Advocates Act, 1961: This Act has been passed to amend and consolidate the law relating to legal practitioners and to provide for the constitution of Bar Councils and an All-India Bar .
The Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985: This Act provides for the adjudication or trial by Administrative Tribunals of disputes and complaints with respect to recruitment and conditions of service of persons appointed to public services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union or of any State or of any local or other authority within the territory of India or under the control of the Government of India or of any corporation or society owned or controlled by the Government in pursuance of Article 323-A of the Constitution.
The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to domestic arbitration, international commercial arbitration and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards as also to define the law relating to conciliation and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Actuaries Act, 2006 : This Act provides for regulating and developing the profession of Actuaries and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Armed Forces Tribunal Act, 2007 : This Act provides for the adjudication or trial by Armed Forces Tribunal of disputes and complaints with respect to commission, appointments, enrolment and conditions of service in respect of persons subject to the Army Act, 1950, the Navy Act, 1957 and the Air Force Act, 1950 and also to provide for appeals arising out of orders, findings or sentences of Court-Martial held under the said Acts and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Banking Regulation Act, 1949 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to banking
The Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976 : This Act was enacted to provide for the abolition of bonded labour system with a view to preventing the economic and physical exploitation of the weaker sections of the people and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Biological Diversity Act, 2002 : This Act provides for conservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of its components and fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the use of biological resources, knowledge and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015: This Act makes provisions to deal with the problem of the Black money that is undisclosed foreign income and assets, the procedure for dealing with such income and assets and to provide for imposition of tax on any undisclosed foreign income and asset held outside India and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 : This Code consolidates and amends the laws relating to the procedure of the Courts of Civil Judicature. It lays down the procedure for enforcement of civil rights and obligations.
The Citizenship Act, 1955 : This Act provides for the acquisition and determination of Indian citizenship.
The Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 : ThisAct has been enacted to define and limit the powers of certain Courts in punishing contempt of Courts and to regulate their procedure.
The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to Criminal Procedure.
The Child Labour (Prohibition And Regulation) Act, 1986 : This Act prohibits the engagement of children in all occupations and to prohibit the engagement of adolescents in hazardous occupations and processes.
The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 : This Act provides for better protection of the interests of consumers and for that purpose to make provision for the establishment of consumer councils and other authorities for the settlement of consumers disputes and other connected matters.
The Chemical Weapons Convention Act, 2000 : This Act gives effect to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction. The said convention was signed on behalf of the Government of India at Paris on the 14th day of January, 1993.
The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 : This Act has been passed to provide for allocation of coal mines and vesting of the right, title and interest in and over the land and mine infrastructure together with mining leases to successful bidders and allottees with a view to ensure continuity in coal mining operations and production of coal, and for promoting optimum utilisation of coal resources consistent with the requirement of the country in national interest and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Competition Act, 2002 : This Act provides , keeping in view the economic development of the country, for the establishment of a Commission to prevent practices having adverse effect on competition, to promote and sustain competition in markets, to protect the interests of consumers and to ensure freedom of trade carried on by other participants in markets, in India, and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003 : This Act provides for the constitution of a Central Vigilance Commission to inquire or cause inquiries to be conducted into offences alleged to have been committed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 by certain categories of public servants of the Central Government, corporations established by or under any Central Act, Government companies, societies and local authorities owned or controlled by the Central Government.
The Cigarettes And Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition Of Advertisement And Regulation Of Trade And Commerce, Production, Supply And Distribution) Act, 2003 : This Act has been enacted to prohibit the advertisement of, and to provide for the regulation of trade and commerce in, and production, supply and distribution of, cigarettes and other tobacco products and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Commissions For Protection Of Child Rights Act, 2005 : This Act to provides for the constitution of a National Commission and State Commissions for Protection of Child Rights and Children’s Courts for providing speedy trial of offences against children or of violation of child rights and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Civil Liabilities for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010: This Act provides for civil liabilities for nuclear damage and prompt compensation to the victims of a nuclear incident through a no fault liability regime channeling liability to the operator, appointment and establishment of Nuclear Damage Claims Commission.
The Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010: This Act provides for registration a view to prescribe minimum standards of facilities and services which can be provided by them so that improvement in public health can be achieved.
The Companies Act, 2013 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to companies. The Act has 29 Chapters 480 sections and 7 Schedules. It received President’s assent on 29th August, 2013. The Act provides that Government may notify the provisions of the Act at one time on it may appoint different dates for different parts of the Act. On September 12, 2013 by a notification. Ministry of Corporate Affairs enforced 98 sections of Companies Act, 2013.
The Divorce Act, 1869: This Act provides the law relating to the divorce of persons professing the Christian religion and to confer upon certain court’s jurisdiction in the matters of matrimonial causes.
The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 : This Act has been enacted to control the advertisement of drugs in certain cases, to prohibit the advertisement for certain purposes of remedies alleged to possess magic qualities.
The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961: This Act prohibits both giving and taking of dowry.
The Designs Act, 2000: This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to protection of designs.
The Disaster Management Act, 2005 : This Act to provides for the effective management of disasters and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Essential Commodities Act, 1955 : This Act provides, in the interests of the general public, for the control of the production, supply and distribution of, and trade and commerce in, certain commodities.
Environment (Protection) Act, 1986: The Act makes provisions for the protection and improvement of environment.
The Family Courts Act, 1984 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the establishment of Family Courts with a view to promote conciliation in, and secure speedy settlement of, disputes relating to marriage and family affairs and other connected matters.
The Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to foreign exchange with the objective of facilitating external trade and payments and for promoting the orderly development and maintenance of foreign exchange market in India .
The Food Safety And Standards Act, 2006 : This Act has been enacted to consolidate the laws relating to food and to establish the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India for laying down science-based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Geographical Indications of Goods (Regulation and Protection) Act, 1999: This Act provides for the Registration and better protection of Geographical Indications relating to goods.
The Gram Nyayalayas Act, 2008 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the establishment of Gram Nyayalayas at the grass roots level for the purposes of providing access to justice to the citizens at their doorsteps and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of social, economic or other disabilities and other related matters.
The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 : This Act amends and codifies the law relating to marriage among Hindus.
The Hindu Adoptions And Maintenance Act, 1956 : This Act amends and codifies the law relating to adoptions and maintenance among Hindus.
The Hindu Succession Act, 1956 : This Act amends and codifies the law relating to intestate succession among Hindus.
The Indian Penal Code, 1860: It codifies the Criminal Law of India. It consists of 511 sections which define various offences and punishments.
The Indian Contract Act, 1872: It lays down the law regarding formation, performance and enforceability of contracts. It provides four corners within which private parties may make contracts for themselves and seek help of the Courts in case one party unilaterally refuses to perform his part of agreement.
The Indian Evidence Act, 1872: It lays down various rules regarding admissibility of evidence, kinds of evidence, burden of proof, standard of proof, etc.
The Indian Stamp Act, 1899 : This Act to consolidates and amends the law relating to Stamps .
The Indian Partnership Act, 1932 : This Act defines and amends the law relating to partnership.
The Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 : This Act makes provision for the investigation and settlement of industrial disputes, and other related purposes . The main object of this Act is to harmonies the relations between the employer and the employees and to maintain industrial peace.
The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 : The Government of India signed the International Convention signed at New York on the 9th day of May, 1950, for the prevention of immoral traffic. This Act gives effect to this convention for prevention of immoral traffic.
The Indecent Representation Of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 : This Act has been enacted to prohibit indecent representation of women through advertisements or in publications, writings, paintings, figures or in any other manner.
The Information Technology Act, 2000 : This Act has been enacted to provide legal recognition for transactions carried out by means of electronic data interchange and other means of electronic communication, commonly referred to as “electronic commerce”, which involve the use of alternatives to paper-based methods of communication and storage of information, to facilitate electronic filing of documents with the Government agencies and further to amend the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, the Banker’s Books Evidence Act, 1891 and the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to children alleged and found to be in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection by catering to their basic needs through proper care, protection, development, treatment, social re-integration, by adopting a child-friendly approach in the adjudication and disposal of matters in the best interest of children and for their rehabilitation through processes provided, and institutions and bodies established under this Act.
The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 : This Act has been enacted to constitute legal services authorities to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities, and to organise Lok Adalats to secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity.
The Limitation Act, 1963 : This Act consolidates and amends the law for the limitation of suits and other proceedings.
The Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008 : This Act has been enacted to make provisions for the formation and regulation of limited liability partnerships and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013 : This Act provides for the establishment of a body of Lokpal for the Union and Lokayukta for States to inquire into allegations of corruption against certain public functionaries and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 : This Act has been enacted to establish and enforce standards of weights and measures, regulate trade and commerce in weights, measures and other goods which are sold or distributed by weight, measure or number and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Minimum Wages Act, 1948 : This Act provides for fixing minimum rates of wages in certain employments.
The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 : This Act has been enacted to regulate the employment of women in certain establishments for certain periods before and after child-birth and to provide for maternity benefit and certain other benefits.
The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to motor vehicles.
The Multi-State Co-Operative Societies Act, 2002 : This Act has been enacted to consolidate and amend the law relating to co-operative societies, with objects not confined to one State and serving the interests of members in more than one State, to facilitate the voluntary formation and democratic functioning of co-operatives as people’s institutions based on self-help and mutual aid and to enable them to promote their economic and social betterment and to provide functional autonomy and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 : This Act provides for the enhancement of livelihood security of the households in rural areas of the country by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Maintenance And Welfare Of Parents And Senior Citizens Act, 2007 : This Act provides for more effective provisions for the maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens guaranteed and recognised under the Constitution and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881: This Act has been enacted to define and amend the law relating to Promissory Notes, Bills of Exchange and Cheques.
The Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 : This Act has been enacted to consolidate and amend the law relating to narcotic drugs, to make stringent provisions for the control and regulation of operations relating to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances , to provide for the forfeiture of property derived from, or used in illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, to implement the provisions of the International Conventions on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and for other connected matters.
The National Security Guard Act, 1986 : This Act provides for the constitution and regulation of an armed force of the Union for combating terrorist activities with a view to protecting States against internal disturbance and for other connected matters.
The National Tax Tribunal Act, 2005 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the adjudication by the National Tax Tribunal of disputes with respect to levy, assessment, collection and enforcement of direct taxes and also to provide for the adjudication by that Tribunal of disputes with respect to the determination of the rates of duties of customs and central excise on goods and the valuation of goods for the purposes of assessment of such duties as well as in matters relating to levy of tax on service, in pursuance of article 323-B of the Constitution and for other connected or incidental matters.
The National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 : This Act has been enacted to constitute an investigation agency at the national level to investigate and prosecute offences affecting the sovereignty, security and integrity of India, security of State, friendly relations with foreign States and offences under Acts enacted to implement international treaties, agreements, conventions and resolutions of the United Nations, its agencies and other international organisations and for other connected or incidental matters.
The National Green Tribunal Act, 2010 : This Act provides for the establishment of a National Green Tribunal for the effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for other connected or incidental matters.
The National Food Security Act, 2013 : This Act has been enacted to provide for food and nutritional security in human life cycle approach, by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices to people to live a life with dignity and for other connected or incidental matters.
The National Judicial Appointments Commission Act, 2014 : This Act regulates the procedure to be followed by the National Judicial Appointments Commission for recommending persons for appointment as the Chief Justice of India and other Judges of the Supreme Court and Chief Justices and other Judges of High Courts and for their transfers and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 2013: This Act has been enacted to provide for the establishment of an Authority to promote old age income security by establishing, developing and regulating pension funds, to protect the interests of subscribers to schemes of pension funds and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012: This Act has been passed to protect children from offences of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography and provide for establishment of Special Courts for trial of such offences and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Protection Of Civil Rights Act, 1955 : This Act has been enacted to prescribe punishment for the preaching and practice of untouchability, for the enforcement of any disability arising therefrom and other connected matters .
The Patents Act, 1970 : This Act amends and consolidates the law relating to patents.
The Prevention Of Insults To National Honour Act, 1971 : This Act prevents Insults to National Honour.
The Prevention Of Corruption Act, 1988 : This Act consolidates and amends the law relating to the prevention of corruption and for other connected matters .
The Protection Of Human Rights Act, 1993 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the constitution of a National Human Rights Commission, State Human Rights Commissions in States and Human Rights Courts for better protection of human rights and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Prevention Of Money-Laundering Act, 2002 : This Act has been passed to prevent money-laundering and to provide for confiscation of property derived from, or involved in, money-laundering and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Protection Of Women From Domestic Violence Act, 2005 : This Act provides for more effective protection of the rights of women guaranteed under the Constitution who are victims of violence of any kind occurring within the family and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Prohibition Of Child Marriage Act, 2006 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the prohibition of solemnisation of child marriages and for other connected and incidental matters.
The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 : This Act provides for the prohibition of employment as manual scavengers, rehabilitation of manual scavengers and their families, and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Representation Of The People Act, 1950 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the allocation of seats in, and the delimitation of constituencies for the purpose of elections to, the House of the People and the Legislatures of States, the qualifications of voters at such elections, the preparation of electoral rolls, the manner of filling seats in the Council of States to be filled by representatives of Union territories, and other connected matters.
The Representation Of The People Act, 1951: This Act has been enacted to provide for the conduct of elections to the Houses of Parliament and to the House or Houses of the Legislature of each State, the qualifications and disqualifications for membership of those Houses, the corrupt practices and other offences at or in connection with such elections and the decision of doubts and disputes arising out of or in connection with such elections.
The Right to Information Act, 2005 : This Act provides for setting out the practical regime of right to information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities, in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority, the constitution of a Central Information Commission and State Information Commissions and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Right of Children To Free And Compulsory Education Act, 2009 : This Act provides for free and compulsory education to all children of the age of six to fourteen years.
The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 : This Act has been enacted to ensure, in consultation with institutions of local self-government and Gram Sabhas established under the Constitution, a humane, participative, informed and transparent process for land acquisition for industrialisation, development of essential infrastructural facilities and urbanisation with the least disturbance to the owners of the land and other affected families and provide just and fair compensation to the affected families whose land has been acquired or proposed to be acquired or are affected by such acquisition and make adequate provisions for such affected persons for their rehabilitation and resettlement and for ensuring that the cumulative outcome of compulsory acquisition should be that affected persons become partners in development leading to an improvement in their post acquisition social and economic status and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Sale Of Goods Act, 1930 : This Act defines and amends the law relating to the sale of goods. This Act covers only movable property. Provisions regarding sale of immovable property are covered by the Transfer of Property Act.
The Sexual Harassment Of Women At Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition And Redressal) Act, 2013 : This Act has been enacted to provide protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 : This Act provides for the establishment, development and management of the Special Economic Zones for the promotion of exports and for other connected or incidental matters.
The State Emblem Of India (Prohibition Of Improper Use) Act, 2005 : This Act prohibits the improper use of State Emblem of India for professional and commercial purposes and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Sashastra Seema Bal Act, 2007 : This Act provides for the constitution and regulation of an armed force of the Union for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for other connected matters.
The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 : This Act has been enacted to protect the rights of urban street vendors and to regulate street vending activities and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Transfer Of Property Act, 1882 : This Act deals with the transfer of immovable property.
The Trade Unions Act, 1926 : This provides for the registration of Trade Unions and in certain respects to define the law relating to registered Trade Unions .
The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the regulation of removal, storage and transplantation of [human organs and tissues for therapeutic purposes and for the prevention of commercial dealings in human organs and tissues and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India Act, 1997 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the establishment of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal to regulate the telecommunication services, adjudicate disputes, dispose of appeals and to protect the interests of service providers and consumers of the telecom sector, to promote and ensure orderly growth of the telecom sector, and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Trade Marks Act, 1999 : This Act has been passed to amend and consolidate the law relating to trade marks, to provide for registration and better protection of trade marks for goods and services and for the prevention of the use of fraudulent marks.
The Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Act, 2008 : This Act provides for the social security and welfare of unorganised workers and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 : This Act has been enacted to provide for the protection of wild animals, birds and plants and for matters connected therewith or ancillary or incidental thereto with a view to ensuring the ecological and environmental security of the country.
The Waqf Act, 1995 : This Act provides for the better administration of Waqfs and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Weapons Of Mass Destruction And Their Delivery Systems (Prohibition Of Unlawful Activities) Act, 2005 : This Act prohibits unlawful activities, in relation to weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems and for other connected or incidental matters.
The Whistle Blowers Protection Act, 2014 : This Act has been passed to establish a mechanism to receive complaints relating to disclosure on any allegation of corruption or wilful misuse of power or wilful misuse of discretion against any public servant and to inquire or cause an inquiry into such disclosure and to provide adequate safeguards against victimisation of the person making such complaint and for other connected or incidental matters.
